The Emotions and Body Shape Expressed in the Colors and Sounds of the Disease

Last update : 20.11.2018 | Print this page

It is increasingly argued that emotions shape our physical body and trigger various pathologies. Often the patients cannot talk about their symptoms, about the states of their experiencing. They do not know or dare to use the right words to articulate the condition of their bodies and minds. Fear of illness and fear of words go hand in hand.
Narrative Medicine comes to give importance to the words. Teaching us that before expressing, we must know how to listen. We must hear what the body tells us about ourselves.

How could we do this?
An opportunity would be experiencing the sound and the color as a participant in our own healing process. Following the steps, built through time as multi-faceted strategies by authors such as Sigmund Freud, John Pierrakos, Fr. Laplantine, Lise Bourbeau, Rita Charon, and others, each of them, a responsible pioneer of the domain and the register approached, for the occasion of this workshop we have argued, reflected with models of comparative history of human development and diversification, through generous approach of cultural anthropology.
We propose to the medical students and to the health specialists in general a dialogue examples and methodologies with oneself, with the patients they care for and deciphering them into a coherent speech, generated by verbal and non-verbal signifiers of sound, shape and color.
